Design Studio I
For my first design studio, I learned Adobe Flash. I first obtained the software and read through some tutorials on how to use the tools. Once I had a basic grasp on the tool, I brainstormed some ideas for a project that could help me learn the program. I spoke with a friend who owns a small software development business and offered to create a flash banner to advertise his business on the internet. I had seen a number of banner advertisements on forums and website, and envisioned something that could help market his business.
I interviewed my friend to get an idea of what he wanted for the banner's content. His company's product analyzes a program called SAP BusinessObjects and collects metadata that is useful to administrators of the SAP BusinessObjects software. We spoke and I began to envision an elegant banner posed a series of questions / common facts that BusinessObjects administrators should know about their systems. My friend's program would then be presented as the solution with a link to his website. My friend liked the idea and helped me produce a list of useful facts.
I reviewed his company's website and selected graphics and colors directly from the existing site. I researched flash banners currently in use on the internet to determine the banner's dimensions. I designed a series of mockups in Adobe Photoshop to serve as a storyboard for the banner's animation sequence. I submitted the proposal to my friend to evaluate and made revisions based on his feedback.
I then transitioned to Adobe Flash and began creating the banner based on the Photoshop images. After completing production of the first draft, I submitted it to my friend to evaluate. He liked the banner, but explained that it seemed to move too fast and was a bit too wordy. He asked for me to remove some of the "Did you know..." questions and slow the other text so it displays longer. I revised and resubbmited three more times before he was completly satisfied with the final product.
